Men have unique needs which will be shared in this Group through authentic fellowship, relationship, and honest accountability about responsibility in the home with other men. The Group achieves this through fellowship, sports, volunteer activities and seminars.
Doctors advise that, people should complete their physical, “a medical examination to determine a person’s bodily fitness,” at least once every year, and if you are like me, you probably do this judiciously annually. Why? you may ask, because like a lot of people, I want to ensure that, I am as healthy as can be all through the year. Have you noticed that, when the doctors conduct your physical, the emphasis of their examination is on the inside (especially out heart), and very little attention is paid to the outside? this is because the inside is really what is most important (heart, kidney, liver, bowels etc.), also a lot of things that may later occur, or seen on the outside, has a correlation with things happening on the.
As important as going to the doctor for annual checkup, is that, we regularly go to the Great Physician to do a spiritual health check, and ask Him to focus on the inside, our hearts, to ensure that all is still well with us on the inside, so that we do not live under the illusion that our outside is okay (because we receive praise and accolades from men on out outside), even though on the inside, there is looming sickness and disaster, that if not checked, will eventually make all the seeming wellness on the outside, immaterial. This is what the Psalmist was doing when he noted, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” Psalm 139:23-24 NLT.
Doing a regular spiritual heart check is important in our Christian walk, because the state of our heart, can determine the course of our destiny, Proverbs 4:23 notes, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” One place in the Bible where the state of the heart, determined the destiny of people can be found in 1 Samuel 16:6-7, when it was time for a King to be selected to replace Saul. It is noted that, “6 When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the Lord’s anointed!” 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
In this story, one determining factor why Eliab, who in the eyes of men (even in the eyes of God’s Prophet) met all the criteria required to be King, was the state of His heart. Even though the Bible did not categorically state the details of the state of his heart, it was such that what he showed outside, was not a true reflection of what he hid inside of his heart, and obviously did not meet the standard of God.
Remember, no matter what others see on your outside, God will eventually judge you based on your inside. So, take time today to do a heart check, and ask God to flush out everything that is a clog in your heart, so that it will meet Gods standard, because at the end of the day, He is the one that will ultimately determine your destiny here on earth and in eternity. Ask of God and He will help you through this process, “I’ll give you a new heart, put a new spirit in you. I’ll remove the stone heart from your body and replace it with a heart that’s God-willed, not self-willed.” Ezekiel 36:26 (Message)
